Forever Is Never Forever

Gabriela Prochazka

14 April 2023

Gabriela Prochazka's atmospheric light intervention, "Forever Is Never Forever" transforms Platform gallery into a three-dimensional sculpture conjured with mirrors and light.

Prochazka uses projected line drawings inspired by petroglyphs, she explores the theme of lines etched into rock and lines projected for a fleeting moment. A transient dance between light and matter at different time-scales brings attention to the interplay between fast and slow and our conscious and subconscious. At the center of it all, a mystical entity reflects everything around it as it spins on its axis.

Accompanied by a sound installation, "Forever Is Never Forever" offers a multi-sensory experience that encourages reflection on the impact of the current changes in the area the light installation takes place is embedded in.

The area is currently undergoing a significant redevelopment from an industrial area to an inner-city residential area. The installation touches upon what role art may play in these repurposing changes, and how creative spaces can become squeezed in between the start and end of repurposing.

As the area's transformation unfolds, the role of creative spaces like Platform Stockholm becomes more crucial and simultaneously, uncertain. The uncertainty of how long these spaces can remain in place before the next phase of repurposing begins is a constant concern.

By providing a space for reflection and dialogue, Platform Stockholm hopes to create awareness of the importance of artistic interventions in shaping the evolution of urban environments. Through "Forever Is Never Forever", the exhibition seeks to explore the interplay between art and urban development, and how creative spaces can contribute to a more vibrant and inclusive city.
